The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that they have decided to DFA another pitcher, this time it's pitcher Michael Petersen.

The Blue Jays announced that they have DFA'd pitcher Michael Petersen

The Blue Jays have a full 40 man roster which is why anytime they have signed a new player over the last few weeks they have had to DFA a player which is exactly what took place with Michael Petersen.
The Blue Jays announced that they have officially signed Scherzer this evening and because of that they decided to DFA Petersen to free up space on their roster.
Petersen is the DFA for the Scherzer addition.
The Blue Jays have finalized their $15.5m, one-yr deal with Max Scherzer.

Righty Michael Petersen designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40.
The Blue Jays picked up Petersen last November off waivers after the Miami Marlins placed him there after on two month with the team as they had claimed him off waivers in September from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Petersen got his first taste of MLB action last season with the Marlins and Dodgers as he pitched 19.2 innings with a 5.95 ERA including 14 strikeouts and a 3-1 record.
The Blue Jays will likely be designating more players for assignment before the start of the season as their 40 man roster is once again full with the addition of Scherzer and they are still in contact with a few free agents.
It will be interesting to see if anyone else gives the 6'7 pitcher a chance in the MLB.
