The Toronto Blue Jays are set to apparently make Pete Alonso a massive offer worth $116 million to beat out the New York Mets current offer.

The Mets made an offer to Alonso at $70 million over three years which he turned down despite stating that his top priority would be returning to New York but that is starting to look unlikely as they are not willing to pay him more.

The Blue Jays are apparently set to make Pete Alonso a $116 million offer

The Blue Jays have apparently made Alonso a three year offer a few weeks ago but they seem to be looking to raise it as they know they will not be able to close him on a deal similar to the one the Mets offered.
According to reports, the Blue Jays are looking to offer Alonso a four year contract worth $116 million which will pay him an average salary of 29 million per season which is almost $6 million more than the Mets.
Alonso's current market value is a six-year deal worth $174 million -- an average of $29 million per year. The Blue Jays should be looking to offer Alonso four years for $116 million. -VonScio

Alonso was projected to sign a six year deal worth $174 million heading into the off-season which means the Blue Jays would be matching his average salary but would not be offering him as long of a term.
This offer would give Alonso his market price for average annual value while also not committing to him for as long as six years. The Blue Jays could even choose to make the contract heavier in the front to help sell it to Alonso they are trying to win now.

This is actually a smart move by Atkins as it shows Alonso that the team is serious about closing a deal with him and they are willing to give him what he is worth as they believe in his skill.
