Toronto Blue JaysJordan Romano has been by far the team's most reliable closer over the past few seasons but it looks like that might be changing in 2025.
The Blue Jays bullpen was atrocious in 2024 and it did not help that their main closer, Jordan Romano missed the majority of the season due to an injury and when he was finally suppose to come back, he dealt with a set back.
Now looking to wards the 2025 season, it looks like Romano's job is not as safe as it has once been due to his recent trouble with injuries and the Blue Jays looking looking to shake things up in regards to their bullpen. The fact that the few games Romano did play were not great as he finished with a 6.59 ERA in 15 appearances does not help his situation.
Romano, 31, got bit by the injury bug multiple times this year and finished with just 15 appearances. He earned eight saves in that time but surrendered 10 runs on 16 hits in just 13.2 innings of work, resulting in a 6.59 ERA and 63 ERA+. These numbers are all well below what the Jays expected from him heading into the season. -Treuden
Romano's contract is eligible for arbitration and with his recent performances and injuries, there is a chance the Blue Jays decide to part ways with the Canadian pitcher.
During the end of the season press conference, general manager Ross Atkins surprised a lot of reporters when he stated that the team is still on sure as to who their main closer will be next season.
When Atkins was first asked who'd be the Blue Jays' closer in 2025, he simply responded with "I don't know." From there, he said that Romano would need to come back and pitch like the pitcher he once was and that he believes the Canadian hurler has what it takes to bounce back. -Treuden
Romano will be in the MLB next season but unfortunately, it might not be for the Blue Jays.
