The Toronto Blue Jays seem to want to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr to a contract extension but keep having problems actually closing the deal but it looks like they still have no plan on trading him even if they can't sign him.

The Blue Jays recently put together a new offer that they presented to Guerrero that was apparently around $500 million but the Blue Jays superstar was still not pleased with the amount offered.

Fans have been wondering what the Blue Jays will end up doing if they end up being unable to sign Guerrero since losing him to free agency seems like a waste which is why there has been so many trade rumors flying around.
MLB reporter Rowan Kavner believes that the Blue Jays will hold onto Guerrero at all cost even if they are out of a playoff spot at the trade deadline which means there is a good chance they end up losing him with nothing in exchange if things play out this way.
On Friday, FOX Sports' Rowan Kavner made a doomsday prediction. Kavner believes the Blue Jays will hang onto Guerrero at the trade deadline, but still miss the playoffs. -Roberts

"While the AL East is active, the Blue Jays, trailing in the division but not far enough back to pull the plug, hold onto Guerrero, who still has yet to sign an extension," Kavner wrote. "The move doesn't pay off as the Jays still miss the playoffs while Guerrero reaches free agency." -Kavner

While fans would prefer to see Guerrero in blue and white for the rest of his career the reality of it is that a deal might not get done and if he enters free agency, the chances of him returning are very slim.
Trading Guerrero would crush the fan base but losing a player of that caliber to free agency with nothing in return could end up setting the Blue Jays back a decade where they will be playing for a lottery pick in the draft.
Hopefully none of this ends up mattering if the Blue Jays can find a way to get a deal done at some point this season.
