Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Ryan Yarbrough is headed for free agency this winter and it looks like the Toronto will have some competition in signing him as the Boston Red Sox are interested in the reliever.
The Blue Jays acquired Yarbrough from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline in exchange for outfielder Kevin Kiermaier which now looks like a steal on the Blue Jays part even though he is now a free agent.
Yarbrough had a solid season split between Los Angeles and Toronto with a 3.19 ERA in 44 outings between the two teams which makes him one of the better relievers hitting the markets looking to at to their bullpen.
One player who could solve this issue is former Toronto Blue Jays hurler Ryan Yarbrough. He began the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers but was traded to the Blue Jays this past summer. Overall, he finished the season with a very respectable 3.19 ERA across 44 outings to go along with a 65-to-32 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 98 2/3 innings pitched. -McAvoy
Because of this, the Red Sox need to be looking for upgrades in free agency. Specifically, the Red Sox need a dependable, high-leverage lefty out in the bullpen. -McAvoy
Yarbrough is expected to sign a 5 year deal worth $26 million which would make him a steal for whichever team ends up signing him due to his reliability and consistency on the mound.
Hopefully Yarbrough enjoyed his time in Toronto and will be leaning their way in free agency but it will definitely not be easy to keep him around.
