Former Toronto Blue Jays all-star pitcher Roberto Osuna has been struggling so far this season in Japan as he is currently one of the worst pitchers in the NPB.
When can no longer make it on an MLB roster towards the end of their careers, they will often opt to head over seas to play in Japan or Korea since they are paid much better than in the minor leagues.
Former Blue Jays pitcher Roberto Osuna off to terrible start in Japan this season
Osuna was once an all-star in the MLB with the Blue Jays back in 2017 but within three years after that he was out of the MLB as his last season came with the Houston Astros back in 2020.
Since then Osuna has been playing over seas where he has been in Japan for the last few season but has been horrible so far this season after signing a big new contract last season.
Roberto Osuna 2022-2023: 0.92 ERA, 74 K in 78.2 IP
Roberto Osuna 2024-2025: 4.47 ERA, 27 K in 46.1 IP
He's transformed from one of the most dominant pitchers in NPB to the worst closer in the league since signing a 4-year, $26M extension.
In 2022-23,
Osuna was regarded as the best closer in Japan as he finished the season with a 0.92 ERA including 74 strikeouts in 78.2 innings pitched which led to his 4 year $26 million contract.
Since last signing his new contract Osuna has been struggling and this season it is at an all-time high as he currently has a 4.47 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched.
Roberto Osuna is a genuinely terrible pitcher now. Literally unplayable.
This is quite the fall from grace for the former Blue Jays all-star pitcher.
