Toronto Blue Jays World Series champion Dave Winfield was announced by the MLBPA as the winner for the 2024 Curt Flood award.
Flood only spent one season with the Blue Jays which came in 1993 which turned out of be an incredible season as the Blue Jays would go onto win a World Series for the second year in a row.
After the conclusion of the 1991 season, he signed with the Blue Jays for the 1992 season, slashing .290/.377/.491 with 26 home runs in 670 plate appearances. The then 40-year-old played in his second postseason that year, slashing .239/.327/.413 with two home runs in 54 plate appearances. As you may know, the 1992 Blue Jays won their first World Series in franchise history, largely thanks to his game-winning hit that lifted the Jays over the Atlanta Braves. -Delaney
Former Blue Jays Dave Winfield named the winner of the Curt Flood award
Since retiring, Winfield has been working as part of the Major League Baseball Player Association helping player's get what they deserve in terms of contract and benefit where his title has been special assistant to the director of the MLBPA.
Winfield was named the winner of the Curt Floor award for his work with the MLB's player association as the award is given to the former player that demonstrates the most devotion to player's rights.
On Saturday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that Dave Winfield was given the 2024 Curt Flood Award. The award is «given to a former player who demonstrates devotion to the Major League Baseball Players Association and the advancement of Players' rights." -Delaney
