The Texas Rangers announced that they have agreed to a contract with former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Jesse Chavez.

Chavez announced last week that despite being 41 years old, he wants to continue to play which makes sense after the season he had with the Atlanta Braves in 2024 where he finished with a 3.13 ERA.

The Rangers announced late last night they have agreed to a minor league deal with Chavez which will also include an invitation to major league Spring Training.

The most surprising part of the deal is that Chavez was unable to land a major league deal despite having put up solid numbers over the last few seasons but that likely has to do with his age.
This will be Chavez' second stint with the Rangers where he played in 2019 and 2020 where he had a tough stretch but since then has consistently had an ERA under 4.00.
Chavez has not played for the Blue Jays in almost 10 years as his last stint with them was back in 2016 which was his second time in Toronto as the first time came in 2012.
Despite having signed a minor league deal with the Rangers, if Chavez is able to prove in Spring Training that he is still just as solid as he was last season, he will likely secure himself a spot in the Rangers bullpen.
