Former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi officially agreed to a three year contract with the Los Angeles Angels this morning.

The Blue Jays traded Kikuchi at the 2024 trade deadline to the Houston Astros in exchange for Jake Bloss, Jake Loperfido and Will Wagner in which was regarded as one of the best trades of the deadline.

The Angels and former Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi have agreed too a three year deal worth $63 million which will pay Kikuchi an average annual salary of $21 million.

Fans were surprised to hear about the move since they believe this might have been a slight over pay for a consistent pitcher who had a season with some up and downs in 2024.
Kikuchi had a slow start to the season in Toronto last year but as he had a 4-9 record to go along with a 4.75 ERA with the Blue Jays prior to being traded at the deadline.
One he arrived in Houston, the second half of the season when much better as he had a 2.70 ERA and a 4-1 record with the Astros resulting in a 4.05 ERA to end his season.
The 33-year-old spent last season between the Blue Jays and Astros, going from the Toronto to Houston in a mid-season trade on July 29. He was 4-9 with a 4.75 ERA in 22 starts for the Jays but came on strong down the stretch, going 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 outings for the Astros, bringing his season ERA down to 4.05. -TSN

This deal with the Angels is the largest so far this off-season and the flood gates are now open and fans will likely be seeing many more deals to come in the following days.
