News broke yesterday on social media that former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Derek Holland has decided to call it a career and retire at 38 years old.

The former Blue Jays pitcher had not pitched since 2023 when he signed a deal with the York Revolution in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball but has not played since due to Tommy John Surgery and has now decided to retire.

Holland did not spend much time in Toronto as he was signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays on May 4th 2022 and spent 20 games in Triple-A before being released on July 22nd.
The 38 year old pitched took to social media yesterday and in a lengthy post, spoke of his journey as a pitcher and why he has decided to finally call it a career at 38 years old.
Derek Holland officially announced his retirement today. His message to Rangers fans:

«Ranger nation no words will ever express how grateful i am to have put on that uniform for you... You guys are an unreal group and I'm so thankful for your love and support of my career.»

Holland spent the majority of his career with the Texas Rangers who drafted him back in 2006 MLB draft and he finally made his first start in 2009 and played in Texas until 2016.
His career from then on out took him to the Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers then finally the Toronto Blue Jays before he ended up signing in the ALBP.
Holland looks like he will be stepping into coaching which he did last season as he recovered from Tommy John surgery and even coached the AL bullpen in the All-Stars futures game.
