Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins spoke to the media this morning as Spring Training began and answered some questions regarding the ongoing negotiations with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Earlier this morning manager John Schneider spoke to the media about the negotiations and worried some people as he did not seem very convincing that a deal will get done in the coming days.

During a press conference this morning, Atkins was asked about the negotiations where he opened up a bit but refused to give too much detail as he believes that it can affect a deal getting done.
Atkins was asked by reporters if he has been in constant contact with Guerrero's camp to which he stated that he will not give away any details because it can decrease the chances of a deal getting done which is what he apparently wants.
Asked Atkins whether he's been in daily contact with Vladdy's camp re: negotiations..

«Anything I share decreases the likelihood of us getting something done, which is our goal. I can say that we have worked very hard, and has Barry (Praver), to find a way, if there is one.»
The Blue Jays GM also stated that they have been trying very hard to get a deal done that would keep him in Toronto for an extended period of time and that they will continue to work hard to try and get a deal done.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins on Blue Jays' discussions with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.:
«We have worked exceptionally hard to find a way to keep him here for an extended period beyond this year. And we'll continue to do that.»
Despite Atkins stating that management is working very hard to get a deal done, it is hard to believe that since they know exactly how much Guerrero is looking for and if they were truly serious, they would simply make him the offer.
Guerrero has been very clear that he will not take less than his minimum asking price which is why it is pointless for the Blue Jays to keep trying to lower the price.
