Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins is on the verge of making a massive mistake involving Vladimir Guerrero Jr which can cause some serious clubhouse issues for the start of the 2025 season.

Atkins recently stated that even if the Blue Jays end up being unable to sign Guerrero to an extension before the start of Spring Training in 6 days, they do not plan on trading him.

Guerrero has made it clear on multiple occasions that he wants to stay in Toronto but is looking for a certain contract number and will not drop below it as he knows he can get much more than it if he waits until next off-season.
The Blue Jays do not seem eager to offer Guerrero his asking price which is why this deal is taking so long to get done as they are trying to land him for cheaper which is where the problem is.
The Blue Jays have made two offers in the last two years that have hit $700 million to Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani proving that they have the money to pay Guerrero but do not think he is worth that much.
«Both (Juan) Soto and Shohei (Ohtani) went to free agency and did OK for themselves ($1.465 billion between them), but not only did those two players choose new teams, but also both seemingly treated the Blue Jays as a viable but lesser option when making their choices,» Rosecrans wrote. «Both of those pursuits show Toronto has the money Guerrero is looking for, but the fact those funds haven't been used for him could create an uneasy start to 2025.» -Rosecrans

If the Blue Jays end up being unable to re-sign him before the season and end up not trading him, they will have to deal with a disgruntled superstar since he will likely want nothing to do with a team that does not believe in him.
If this happens, the Blue Jays might be in line for a tough season since their top player will have a tarnished relationship with management.
The all around smart move would be to simply give him how much he is looking for but this does not seem to sit right with Atkins.
Hopefully this does not end up causing some massive issues for the Blue Jays as the fans do not want to see another disaster of a season.
