Former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi was eliminated yesterday with his new team the Houston Astros is the Wild Card round after losing a second game in a row to the Detroit Tigers.
Kikuchi was acquired at the trade deadline by the Astros from the Blue Jays in which now seems to be the biggest trade of the deadline with Kikuchi having an unbelievable end to his year in Houston .
The Astros pitcher was on the last year of his deal this year and was asked by reporters on his plans regarding upcoming free agency in which he mentioned how the Astros are a great organization and that he would love to return.
#Astros Yusei Kikuchi (and his interpreter Yusuke Oshima) on his short stint with the Astros this year.
«I can see why Houston's a really good organization, really good team for years. And so hopefully if there's a chance I'd like to come back.» #Relentless
Clearly Kikuchi like being in Houston since be acquired by the Astros in late July as he was part of a winning franchise but it is certain things will be different moving forward for the Astros as players are set to be leaving such as leader Alex Bregman.
Since the Blue Jays are looking to improve their starting rotation for next year, it will be interesting to see if they end up offering Kikuchi a contract as he is clearly one of the top pitchers available and enjoyed playing in Toronto.
However, fans in Houston seem to desperately want him to stay since to no surprise they loved him as a pitcher.
Love that Yusei enjoyed his time here even if it was a short. Would love to bring him back! He seemed to gel with this team so well and just seems like such a great dude!
We have to re-sign Kikuchi. I was so wrong about him. Here's to hoping he stays
