Beloved play by play announcer for the Toronto Blue Jays will be taking a definite leave of absence from the team, but it is not what you think.

Over 20 years ago when Shulman was negotiating his contract with ESPN, he has a very specific request. If Shulman was ever offered to announce basketball at any of the Olympic games, he wanted the green light to do so.
More than two decades ago, Dan Shulman negotiated a clause with ESPN that would allow him to take a leave of absence if someone in Canada ever wanted to hire him to cover Olympic basketball. This isn't "work" it's his passion and today it comes to fruition
He calls basketball his first passion and it was always a part of his bucket list to call Canadian basketball games at the Olympics. He got his first opportunity in 2021, but due to the pandemic, everything was done remotely and the experience wasn't great he stated.
«I'm a big basketball fan and a proud Canadian,» Shulman said. «So it's kind of an everything clicks. It has been at least 20 years where I wanted to do this it has been in my contract with ESPN forever.»
He now has got his second chance at this years 2024, Paris Olympics.
Shulman will be calling all of Canada's games on the men's and women's side and will be responsible for some international games as well. With 12 teams in both tournament, there are a lot of players, coaches and schemes he needs to familiarize himself with.

Blue Jays fans will miss him in the booth will Buck Martinez but everyone understands how important this is for him and we wish him nothing but the best on this new venture.
We look forward to having you back!
