Former interim New York Mets general manager Zack Scott, the Toronto Blue Jays were very close to acquiring Francisco Lindor prior to the 2021 season.

According to Scott, the Guardians asked for both the Blue Jays and Guardians to put together packages which would end up being for Lindor prior to the start of the 2021 season.
Scott added that after sleeping on it once both offers were made, the Guardians ended up going with the Mets offer as they felt it would benefit there team more than the one the Blue Jays offered.
He said "I worked for the Mets, not the Guardians, so my perspective may not be fully informed. Cleveland asked us and the Jays if we would do a certain package. We both said yes. Cleveland slept on it and then told us they would do our deal. The Jays did nothing wrong... we squeaked it out."

Former Mets' GM Zack Scott says the Blue Jays had an offer on the table with Cleveland for Francisco Lindor but they chose to take the Mets offer instead.
This could have been a major game changer for the Blue Jays at this point but it unfortunately was not meant to be as Lindor ended up going to New York where he signed a massive extension.
There has been no update as to what the Blue Jays put together in their offer to the Guardians and if any major pieces of their current roster were on it.
The question on everyone's mind now is did Ross Atkins make a proper offer?
