The Boston Red Sox season ended in a bad way this year as they failed to make playoffs and reliever Kelley Jansen decided to head back home before the end of the season.
Jansen has been in Boston for two seasons now putting up decent numbers but nothing special at the same time.
News broke yesterday that Jansen decided to leave the team early as they were eliminated from playoffs and head home to California instead of sticking around until the end of the year.
The Red Sox pitcher was placed on IL on Monday with shoulder inflammation which ended his season which is why he decided to leave even though many players on IL decided to stick with the team until the end of the year.
The Red Sox officially placed Jansen on the IL Monday with right shoulder inflammation, marking his season over. As such, he didn't travel to Toronto for the final road series, but that was standard procedure. A number of players currently on the IL, including Rafael Devers, remained back in Boston. -McAdam
According to reports, his teammates were quite disappointed in his actions but made sure that they were not surprised as Jansen reportedly did not even know some of his teammates names.
Multiple players, all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity, registered their disappointment over Jansen's early departure, though one added: «I can't say I'm too surprised.» Jansen was known to be somewhat aloof during his time with the Sox, at times unsure of some teammates' names. -McAdam
After this move, it is quite likely that the Red Sox will not be bringing him back next season.
