It was revealed in a recent report a new team may emerge as a potential favorite to land Vladimir Guerrero JR If the Toronto Blue Jays see a faltering of their season by July.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller feels that if the Blue Jays playoff hopes to dwindle by the July trade deadline, he thinks that the Seattle Mariners will be the front runner to land the 26-year-old superstar.

Blue Jays may cut ties with Guerrero Jr mid season

"If (the Blue Jays) have even a little bit of a playoff pulse in late July, they won't be trading away Guerrero. (Nor fellow impending free agents Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt, Max Scherzer and Chad Green)," Miller wrote.

According to @JonHeyman: «The belief remains that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays will figure it out for close to $500 million» $500M always felt like the sweet spot for a Vlad extension given his age and position
"Should they crash and burn, though, they might wave the white flag like the Baltimore Orioles did with Manny Machado in 2018, shipping Guerrero to the highest bidder. (Early guess at who that bidder would be: Seattle Mariners)." Kerry Miller

Much has been made about the ongoing contract saga between Guerrero junior and the Blue Jays as the slugger had told the media that there was a self-imposed deadline at the beginning of spring training which had passed with no resolution.
Since then, President Mark Shapiro has taken to the airwaves explaining that he feels Guerrero junior will re sign with the Blue Jays either through the middle of the season or during free agency.

This season will be a gamble for Guerrero Jr and his new contract

The new season is only a few series in, and Guerrero Jr is betting on himself that he will have the best year of his career which will help bolster his salary demands.
Guerrero is coming off a season where he put up a .940 OPS, the second-highest of his career, and finished sixth in American League Most Valuable Player voting. Jackson Roberts
Much must go right for the superstar to convince enough teams to give him over $500 million. If the Jays and himself have a poor season, there's a possibility that Guerrero junior may do a complete 180 and asked Shapiro for a revised number.
This dark cloud will continue to circle the team as they opened their new series against the New York Mets and their 10-game road trip which the Blue Jays lost 5-0 at Citi Field.
