The Toronto Blue Jays announced that two of their pitchers in Zach Pop and Richard Lovelady are both headed for free agency.
Blue Jays pitcher Zach Pop and Richard Lovelady are free agents once again
The Blue Jays announced yesterday that after booth clearing waivers both Pop and Lovelady have decided to become free agents instead of heading to Triple-A as they will both be looking for new contracts.
ROSTER MOVES:
RHP Zach Pop has cleared waivers and been released. He is now a free agent.
LHP Richard Lovelady has cleared waivers and elected free agency.
Blue Jays Release Zach Pop
Out of the two pitchers, the bigger surprise is that Lovelady was let go since the Blue Jays only signed him this off-season and did not give him much of a chance before releasing him.
While clearly neither Pop or
Lovelady were going to help the Blue Jays bullpen this season, releasing these pitchers at a time where they are dealing with so many injuries seems strange.
It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays end up bringing more players from within the organization to help with their current injury issues or if they end up looking at the free agent market.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out for the Blue Jays bullpen throughout the season.
