Christopher Kline of Fansided's has revealed a proposed idea that the New York Yankees jump ahead and make an offer to trade for Toronto Blue Jays Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Kline Also feels that the Blue Jays should consider a trade especially if the team starts off slow in their season and that all indications project no contract to be signed by Guererro Jr before free agency.
Yankees looking to replace Juan Soto after leaving for the Mets
"Guerrero plainly loves Toronto and both sides would prefer a career-long partnership," wrote Kline. "That said, the Blue Jays tend to lose these high-profile bidding wars. Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes - Toronto perpetually finishes second, often losing out to one of the coastal elites. Should Guerrero receive free agent offers from the New York teams or Boston as a free agent, there's a good chance he leaves Toronto high and dry. So, the Blue Jays may need to consider jumping ship before the trade deadline, especially if Toronto comes out of the gate slow."
"It's pretty insulting to Blue Jays fans when you keep mentioning the Yankees in your contract negotiations." Hayes, O-Dog and Noodles discuss Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s stance entering the open market to seek a deal in the league.
The back and forth between Guerrero junior and the Toronto Blue Jays organization especially president mark Shapiro was evident over the past couple of days as Shapiro had told several reporters that he feels confident that a signature to a contract extension is imminent.
"I think we're going to sign him. I think we're going to extend him," Shapiro told reporters, according to The Athletic.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on his upcoming free agency: «I'll speak to every team, including the Yankees»
Blue Jays will attempt to sign him till free agency
Shapiro's tough talk seems to have softened over the past couple of days as reports continued to come out from the Blue Jays organization through the media of where the contract stands in terms of numbers and years of term.
Should the Yankees target Vladimir Guerrero Jr. this offseason? How much does Vladdy impact the game for opposing pitchers?
Guerrero junior is looking for a minimum deal of $500 million and a term of at least 13 years which seems doable for the Yankees as they have endless money.
It will come down to what the Blue Jays feel they were willing to pay as he is a homegrown superstar talent that has become the face of the organization.
Blue Jays fans will have to wait and watch to see how the season unfolds and how Guerrero junior's contract and Bichette's contract will play out.
