The Toronto Blue Jays seem to finally be getting somewhere on their contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr as they are expected to sign him to a record breaking deal this week.

Last week Blue Jays CEO Mark Shapiro stated that the Blue Jays during an interview that he is confident that he is confident that the team will be able to close on a deal with Guerrero since both parties want to make it happen.
"I think we're going to sign him. I think we're going to extend him," Shapiro told reporters, according to The Athletic.

MLB insider Jim Bowden stated that he expects the Blue Jays to close $577 million deal with Vladimir Guerrero Jr this week

The big talk for the Blue Jays over the last couple months has been Guerrero's contract extension and it looks like it might all might finally be coming to an end as an extension is near.
MLB insider Jim Bowden recently stated that he expects the Blue Jays to finally close on a record breaking deal with Guerrero worth $577 million later this week which would make Guerrero a Blue Jay for life.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden predicted that Shapiro's hope would become a reality. He predicted the Blue Jays would agree to a blockbuster extension with Guerrero, keeping him in Toronto for the next 15 years. He predicted the deal would be valued at $577 million and that the two sides would agree "on the eve of Opening Day - or soon after." -Bowden

If the Blue Jays do not end up deferring too much money as they did on their last offer that was close to $500 million Guerrero will likely be willing to close this deal.
If $577 million ends up being the closing number on this deal, it will make Guerrero the third highest paid player in MLB history and will also give him the largest contract in Blue Jays history.
Some fans might think that this is a lot of money but with the season he put up last year and free agency not that far away, the Blue Jays will unfortunately need to pay top dollar to keep Guerrero in Toronto.
Last season, Guerrero slashed .323/.396/.544 and hit 30 home runs. If he has an MVP-type season, he has made it known that his price could climb into the $700 million territory. The Blue Jays need to get an extension done sooner rather than later. -Mohammed

Fans will be ecstatic if this deal gets done the day before Opening Day as it will finally allow the team to focus solely on the season ahead with no distractions.
