Toronto Blue Jays announce why Kevin Gausman is only making his first start today

The Toronto Blue Jays are set to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates today and the Blue Jays have announced that Kevin Gausman will be making his first start of Spring Training.
The Blue Jays announced late last week the starters for the next 5 games with Gausman slated for today's game which fans are excited to see him finally take the mound.
Blue Jays announce why Kevin Gausman has yet to pitch this Spring
Last season, Gausman was dealing with some shoulder issues and rushed in the final weeks of Spring Training to get at least one start in so that he could be ready for the start of the season.
A year ago, shoulder fatigue limited Gausman to just one Grapefruit League appearance and that was a desperately rushed outing in the final days of camp. -Longley
This was a bad idea by Gausman which the team allowed him to do as he rushed back from an injury causing him to have a tough start to the 2024 season which he admitted was a mistake later in the season.
With a lack of starting depth on the Jays roster at the time, Gausman admitted to forcing the issue to help out his team and did make a start in the opening series of the season in Tampa. But the circumstances, like his health, were less than ideal. -Longley
Gausman seems to be in the opposite position this spring as he is feeling great but the team has yet to have him start yet in the Grapefruit League as they want to avoid him having the same issues he had last season.
The good news in the present is that there is no such problem for Gausman this spring, with early indications being the opposite as he's throwing with authority and feeling good physically. -Longley
If the Blue Jays plan on having a strong season and avoid the disaster that happened last year, they need Gausman at the top of his game which is why they have taken this approach this time around.
