The Blue Jays were seen as one of the top landing spots for international free agent Roki Sasaki this summer to the point where they even trade for additional international pool money but as usual ended up losing to the Dodgers.
After a round of meetings, the Blue Jays were reported as a finalist along with the Dodgers and Padres. That reporting solidified Toronto as a destination for Sasaki while also giving Blue Jays fans optimism that Toronto could finally nab a big name free agent. -Palattella

Sasaki made his highly anticipated Spring Training debut for the Dodgers yesterday and was far from a let down as he threw a 99 MPH fastball for his first pitch followed by 3 scoreless innings.
Sasaki made his spring training debut for the Dodgers last night and dazzled with three scoreless innings in relief of Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He introduced himself with a 99.2 mph fastball on his first pitch. -Palattella

Sasaki finished the game giving up 0 earned runs in 3 innings pitched, while striking out five out of nine batters while giving up only 2 hits and walking one batter.

If the Blue Jays were able to land Sasaki this summer, it would have been massive for the team's future but unfortunately that is not the case and now they will have to worry about facing him throughout the next few years.
