The Toronto Blue Jays are putting together a massive blockbuster deal
Joel Reuter Feels that the organization will make the deals if both parties are unable to come to a long-term extension and will likely be moved by July 31st at the Major League Baseball trade deadline.
Blue Jays would receive major assets for both players if available
Reuter thinks the potential deals would come at a price for established players along with top 100 prospects that would bolster the Blue Jays farm system significantly while keeping the team somewhat competitive as it reels from the loss of both players.
"They had their numbers, I had my numbers." Vladimir Guerrero Jr. confirms he and the Blue Jays did not reach an agreement on a contract extension before his Monday-night deadline.
Many pundits in the league feel that the decision will come down to how the Blue Jays season will transpire especially if the team has a slow start and falls in the standings rapidly.
"After failing to come to terms on a long-term deal with Guerrero during the offseason, the Blue Jays are at a crossroads," Reuter writes. "If they fall out of contention early, the free-agent-to-be will almost certainly hit the trade block this summer along with several other veterans.
We've seen a huge packaged deal of Max Scherzer and Trea Turner moved in the past, and a deal that includes Vlad Jr. and Bichette could really shift the baseball landscape at the deadline." - Joel Reuter
Blue Jays season will be deciding factor on blockbuster trades
This prediction has been stated by other pundits throughout the league even though Blue Jays president mark Shapiro has repeatedly said on numerous networks that he feels confident that the Blue Jays can sign Guerrero junior and Bo Bichette before the end of the season.
Guerrero junior put a self-imposed deadline for a contract extension just prior to beginning of spring training. That deadline had passed and over the next couple of weeks Blue Jays fans began to learn how far apart the team and Guerrero junior were when it came to a contract extension.
His number came in around $50 million difference but over the course of 13 to 14 years which put the actual number between 3 and $4 million a year.
It remains to be seen on how the Blue Jays will sign Bichette as he has had good start to his year and has expressed the desire to remain in Toronto much like Guerrero Jr.
This dark cloud will continue to swirl around this team even though they have gone up 3-2 in the season after splitting their series with the Baltimore Orioles and winning their opening game with their series with the Washington Nationals yesterday evening.
