The Toronto Blue Jays got terrible news a few days ago as Max Scherzer went on IL and it looks like the Blue Jays could be interested in former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher.
Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer has been dealing with a serious thumb injury and after being taken out of his first start on Saturday, the Blue Jays announced that he was headed to 15 day IL.
The Blue Jays are interested in former Phillies pitcher Spencer Turnbull
The Blue Jays have been looking at a few different options in terms of replacing Scherzer since their only options are Yariel Rodriguez and Jake Bloss within the organization.
Since the Blue Jays options are limited, they are apparently looking toward for Phillies pitcher Spencer Turnbull who is still unsigned after having a decent season last year.
The Blue Jays, though, are in a tough spot. While it would take some time, they could stretch out Turnbull and deploy him in the rotation once again. He would fill the No. 5 spot in the rotation and be a serviceable pitcher every five days -Von Scio
Last season
Turnbull still had a solid season with the Phillies as a starting pitcher as he made 7 starts in Philadelphia and finished with a 2.65 ERA in those 7 starts in 2024.
Turnbull spent last season with the Philadelphia Phillies and recorded a 2.65 ERA in 17 appearances (seven starts). The 32-year-old was primarily a starting pitcher before being moved to the bullpen last season. -Von Scio
While this is not the best replacement since some would argue that Scherzer was the Blue Jays best starting pitcher but when looking at the numbers, Turnbull might end up being a better option than Rodriguez or Bloss.
It will be interesting to see what ends up happening but a big part of this decision comes down to have severe in Scherzer's injury truly is.
