The Toronto Blue Jays are turning to the Cleveland Guardians waivers wire to replace Max Scherzer
The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking for a replacement as Max Scherzer is still injured and are apparently looking towards Cleveland Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie.
The Blue Jays interested in picking up Triston McKenzie off waivers to replace Max Scherzer
The Blue Jays will be rolling with just four pitchers for this week with Bowden Francis, Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt and Jose Berrios being used against the Houston Astros and New York Yankees.
According to reports, the Blue Jays could be interested in Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie who was DFA'd earlier this week after struggling to start the season as he is currently on waivers.
Among the problems with that plan is that there usually aren't many claimable arms on the market this early into the season. The one exception right now is Cleveland's Triston McKenzie, who was designated for assignment earlier this week after struggling to a whopping 11.12 ERA in four relief appearances. -Hall
The former top end prospect actually put up solid numbers in his first few season even finishing with a 2.96 ERA in 191 innings pitched back in 2022 but due to multiple injuries, he has not been the same since.
The 27-year-old's shine as a former top pitching prospect has long since faded away, and he wouldn't offer much solace to Toronto at this point, considering he's out of options and isn't stretched out as a starter. -Hall
McKenzie has experience as both a starter and out of the bullpen which is what would make him interesting for the Blue Jays since they have had a ton of injuries in both departments this season.
While this is not the option the Blue Jays would have hoped for, he could end up being a solid replacement if he plays well.
