.Cleveland is covering $3.75 million of the remaining $15.5 million owed to Myles Straw, source tells me & @ShiDavidi . Also worth noting: Straw's money counts towards the Blue Jays' CBT calculations regardless of whether he's on their 40-man.
The Blue Jays clearly made this trade for the international bonus pool money but the tough part is that they had to take on Straw's contract who has almost $12 million left on it with the part that the Guardians are covering.
He's owed almost $12M the next two years
This is a risky move by the Blue Jays as this does not guarantee that they will be able to land Sasaki and if they don't, they are simply stuck with Straw's contract with nothing in exchange.
Straw did win a Golden Glove in 2022 for the Guardians but struggled last season as he only played 7 games in the MLB, spending the majority of the year in Triple-A.
