The Toronto Blue Jays might have some big plans for prospect Jake Bloss if they do not add any other starting pitchers this off-season.
The Blue Jays acquired Bloss at the trade deadline last season as part of the package that sent beloved starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi to the Houston Astros in exchange for multiple prospects.
The Blue Jays might start the season with Jake Bloss in the starting rotation
Toronto is in a tough position right now as they are in need of starting pitchers but all of their free agent targets have signed elsewhere apart from Corbin Burnes who is still debating where he wants to go.
If the Blue Jays do not end up adding anyone this off-season, they could end up having Bloss in the starting rotation to start the season as they have very few starting pitchers as of right now.
While the Blue Jays pitching prospect pool is relatively small, Bloss represents a shining light that can make an impact immediately in 2025. As MLB Pipeline stated, he could start the year in the rotation. If the Blue Jays don't add any reinforcements via trade or free agency, there are really only three pitchers slotted into rotation spots. -Drosehn
As it stands, the Blue Jays only have Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt and Jose Berrios as locks to start the season as Alek Manoah is still recovering from an injury and Yariel Rodriguez is likely headed to the bullpen.
Bloss did see some time in the majors last season but only with the Astros in which he pitched 11.2 innings across 3 games, finishing with a rough 6.94 ERA but did do a lot better in Triple-A.
Bloss, 23, accelerated his potential this past season and was even able to reach the major leagues with the Astros. His brief stint wasn't a pretty one. He pitched just 11.2 innings across three starts. Bloss had trouble with keeping traffic off the bases. While he struck out 11, he also walked three and gave up 16 hits, five of which were home runs. -Drosehn
Fans would not consider rushing Bloss to the majors as the ideal plan for the 2025 season but as things stand, they might not have much of a choice.
