Everyone believed that Ross Atkins and the Blue Jays had no plans on trading Bichette after he was quite clear about it during the GM Meeting but everything has changed over the last week and a half.
The Blue Jays asking price to the Tigers for Bo Bichette has been announced
MLB insider Jim Bowden has been discussing a possible Bichette trade and believes that the Tigers could benefit from acquiring the shortstop as they are looking to add solid young players after a surprisingly great 2024 season.
The Tigers have been in the process of a gathering young talent for a while now and need to eventually make substantial moves to get better. Adding Bichette would be a great step forward as they try to make another postseason push. -Sanders
If the Blue Jays were to trade Bichette despite his rough season last year, the Tigers would likely have to package infielder Hao-Yu Lee and RHP Troy Melton which are both very good prospects.
The most realistic package at that point would be infielder Hao-Yu Lee and right-handed pitcher Troy Melton. -Sanders
Even if Bichette is coming off the worst season of his career, as his numbers at the plate were atrocious with a .225 batting average and .277 on base percentage to go along with only 4 homeruns and a long list of injuries, team will have to pay a good price to acquire him..
The 26-year-old infielder posted a .225/.277/.322 slash line with four home runs last year, only playing in 81 games. It was a definite cold streak, but he was battling injury and on a bad team with odd clubhouse vibes. It certainly wasn't a breeding ground for great results. -Sanders
Fans will be sad to see Bichette leave but they also understand that things simply did not workout last year and if they do not play on re-signing him, they need to trade him before they simply lose him to free agency.
