The Toronto Blue Jays bullpen was atrocious this year but no pitcher was worse than Zach Pop after putting up terrible numbers throughout the entire year.
Pop has been riding the coattails of his 2022 season after he had a solid season but has been terrible over the last two years despite being given multiple chances to make a comeback due to the Blue Jays limited amount of bullpen arms.
The Blue Jays need to be done with relief pitcher Zach Pop this off-season
The Blue Jays are looking to make some serious changes to their bullpen for the 2025 season and while they still have 16 bullpen pitchers on their 40 man roster, they need to start DFA'ing players and quickly.
Must read on Blue Jays Insider
One pitcher that needs to go without a doubt is Pop who posted an abysmal 5.59 ERA this season which was over 8.00 for the majority of the season as he has proven to be part of the problem for the Blue Jays terrible bullpen.
Pop's appearances in 2024 have become tough to watch for Jays fans and they're hard to get through without a wince or two. Once again seeing his ERA sit around 6.00, this time over 40 innings of work, and an incredible regression in strikeout rate, Pop has certainly been one of the worst relievers in baseball this year. -Hyatt
While another team might give Pop a chance is he ends up hitting waivers as he could potentially be a bullpen pitcher on a bottom team, the Blue Jays cannot afford to keep him around if they plan on truly turning their bullpen around in 2025.
At the end of the day, the poor performance we've seen from Zach Pop over the last two years isn't necessarily indicative of his full potential, and he's likely going to be back as a mainstay in a bullpen somewhere in the MLB soon no matter what. -Hyatt
Hopefully Atkins makes the right move and walks away from Pop this off-season as it it is a necessity.
