The Toronto Blue Jays have been trying to figure out what to do with Max Scherzer as he is still dealing with a thumb injury and it looks like he will not be back anytime soon.

While Scherzer has been out the Blue Jays called up Easton Lucas who has really stepped up as he had an unbelievable performance in his first game with the Blue Jays on Wednesday giving up 1 hit in a 4-2 win.

Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer will be out longer than expected

The Blue Jays recently gave Scherzer a few cortisone shots to help with the pain and swelling but it looks like it has not been enough since Scherzer will likely be on IL for longer than 15 days.
MLB insider Ben Nicholson-Smith stated that Scherzer will likely require more time off before resuming pitching as his injury seems to be worse than expected which means the Blue Jays will be leaning more into Lucas and Yariel Rodriguez during that time.
«...it's possible he'll require more time before resuming throwing, which creates an opening in the Blue Jays' rotation for someone like Easton Lucas or Yariel Roriguez in the meantime,» Nicholson-Smith added. «None of it's ideal at a time that the Blue Jays are short on big-league ready pitching depth, but there's obviously no sense in rushing Scherzer back. And given his long track record as an elite pitcher, the Blue Jays trust his judgement here.» -Nicholson-Smith

Scherzer stated that the real issue for him is not the pain since he can deal with that but what he is having a hard time with is not being on the mound adding that he would go through any amount of pain to get back out there.
«It doesn't feel good, but you'll take any amount of pain to get back out there,» the pitcher said, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. «Pain's not the problem. The pain is not being able to pitch and be out there. That's what stinks.» -Scherzer

This is an unfortunate situation for the Blue Jays since Scherzer looked incredible in Spring Training and would have given their starting rotation a much needed lift but it looks like they will need to continue to move without him for now.
Hopefully the Blue Jays can get to the bottom of this and have Scherzer back in the lineup before May.
