The Blue Jays took on the Reds yesterday in an inccredible 10-3 win in which the offense was firing on all cylinders.
After the game, manager John Schneider admitted that he did not tell rookie Will Wagner that he would be batting clean up before the game since he wanted to see how the rookie would react.
«He was normal,» Schneider said before watching the 26-year-old collect a first-inning RBI single in what finished as a 10-3 drubbing of the NL Central visitors. «I purposely didn't do it with him and got a good response.»
While Wagner did not have an incredible performance, he still did solid going 1 for 4 at the plate with an RBI in his first time batting clean up in the MLB.
Wagner mentioned how he knew he struggled at first but spoke on his mindset during each at bat which led to the hit and the RBI later in the game.
«The only thing I can control is making good swings on good pitches,» he said. «That's something that happened today. I was saying OK, next at-bat, got to lock it in and if they gave me a pitch to hit, I'm going to make sure that I actually put a barrel on it. And that's what happened and got good results after that.»
