The Toronto Blue Jays were pleased with their results against the Baltimore Orioles after winning 8-2 and seeing their ace Kevin Gausman showing a flash of his old self.

Gausman, had a strong start to his season as he had pitched 6 innings, with three hits in two runs along with four strikeouts.

Gausman worked hard this offseason to improve his pitches

Blue Jays manager John Schneider was happy with Gausman's game as the 34-year-old showed that he can still throw the ball despite his decline in his game.
«I thought Kev, really from the first inning, kind of just said, 'Okay, here I am,' you know,» Manager John Schneider said. «His stuff was legit from the first pitch.» John Schneider

One of the aspects of the game that he tried to improve was gaining the speed of his throw as the Blue Jays were accustomed to a 95 mile per hour pitch.
In 2024, Gausman's release point dropped more than 3.5 inches compared to the 2022 season in which he led the American League in FIP and earned ninth in AL Cy Young voting. His average fastball velocity dropped a full mile per hour over the last two years (to 94 MPH), too. Mitch Bannon

During spring training however, it appeared that he was able to regain his speed and was throwing over 94 miles an hour.

Blue Jays look for strong start after disastrous Opening Day result

The Blue Jays opening day could be categorized as a disastrous start to their season. The team was able to bounce back and show the Orioles that they can hit the ball in Game 2 and hope to continue that throughout the remainder of this opening series.
«If there's anyone on that staff that I think can 'figure it out,' it's Kevin Gausman.» @SNJeffBlair& Kevin Barker share expectations for Gausman ahead of his Spring debut.

The Blue Jays will remain at Rogers Centre for the remainder of this series and will be hosts to the Washington Nationals as they open the series on Monday March 31st.
This three-game series will be the last time they will play at home until April 14th
when they host the Atlanta Braves.
The final game of their opening series will take place on March 30th and game time will be 1:37 PM eastern.
