Davis Schneider will be getting his first start of the 2024 season on Sunday as the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Rays. As for Ernie Clement, he will be replaced by Justin Turner. After all, the Blue Jays need to figure things out after two straight losses.
On Saturday, Clement got his first start of the season at third base. Unfortunately, it was a bad outing for many of the Blue Jays' bats. The team lost by a score of 5-1 and it was their second loss in a row, despite a strong outing on Opening Day. Manager John Schneider is looking to make some big changes, and it has come at the expense of Clement. As per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Davis Schneider will be getting his aforementioned first start of the season. He will get to play in left field. Meanwhile,Turner is back at third base.
Last season was Schneider's first in the Majors, as a 24-year-old. Overall, he was impressive with the Blue Jays as he hit eight home runs in 35 games. His batting average was .276 as he also delivered 32 hits, 23 runs, and 20 RBI. Now, Schneider is coming into his second season with the team, and fans are hoping for a huge year of development. He has shown flashes of brilliance and it should be no surprise that John Schneider is rewarding him.
Today, the Blue Jays will look to finish their four-game series against the Rays with a win. If they do win the game, they will improve to a 2-2 record on the season. However, with a loss, they would be 1-3 with three-straight losses on their record. This game will start at 1:40 PM Eastern Standard Time and if you are in Canada, you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
