Today, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays played their third game in a row against each other. While the game was fairly uneventful, things eventually devolved thanks to a feud between Genesis Cabrera and Jose Caballero.
In the seventh inning of the contest, Caballero was running from second to third base. Eventually, he got to his destination where he was tagged out. However, he ran into Cabrera in the process, and the Blue Jays star did not appreciate that. Cabrera subsequently put his hands in Caballero's face, and the two almost threw hands. From there, both benches cleared, although things de-escalated quickly. As far as bench-clearing brawls are concerned, this will prove to be nothing but a footnote in the history of Major League Baseball.
At the time of this bench-clearing altercation, the Rays were up 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Rays went on to win the game by a score of 5-1. Overall, it was not a great showing from the Blue Jays, who saw their hitters go cold, yet again. The Rays had a successful day of hitting, with numerous players upping their production. Caballero notched two RBIs in the game, all while Randy Arozarena managed three runs. Through five innings, Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi gave up three runs. Now, they have lost two in a row and are 1-2 on the season.
The Blue Jays will play the Rays one last time tomorrow, where they will look to come away with a 2-2 tie in their opening weekend series. This game will go down at 1:40 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
