Bo Bichette had himself a difficult match against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. He made some huge errors in the third inning, and it ultimately cost the Toronto Blue Jays dearly.
Going into yesterday's game, the Blue Jays were on a high after obliterating the Rays by a score of 8-2 on Opening Day. However, things did not go as planned for the Jays as a third-inning collapse led to four runs being given up by pitcher Chris Bassitt. Brandon Lowe hit a Grand Slam home run and it was what propelled the Rays to their own 8-2 win.
During that third inning, Bo Bichette made some defensive errors that helped load up the bases. These mistakes were critical, and Bichette has been getting a ton of hate online ever since. For instance, The Commish on Twitter claimed that Bichette is a "liability" who has held the Blue Jays back from winning.
"Bo Bichette is a liability. It's not a coincidence that the Blue Jays have been unable to win during his tenure with the team."
While the internet continues to pile on, Bichette's manager isn't so worried. During a post-game scrum on Friday night, Schneider made it clear that his team is more than capable of bouncing back. They have confidence in Bichette, and that will not change.
"Any team in this league, you have to catch the ball. These guys do damage and right after that (error), grand slam. Errors are part of it, so you just flush it and get back after it tomorrow. Defence, as we all know, is very important, but Chris battled."
Today, the Blue Jays will be looking to exact revenge on the Rays in game 4 of their four-match series. The game will begin at 4:10 PM Eastern Standard Time and it will be aired on Sportsnet in Canada.
