The Blue Jays are currently 10 games out of the final Wild Card spot meaning the chance of the them making a push for the playoffs is beyond slim.
Since making the playoffs is not a serious issue at hand, the Blue Jays are looking to getting some prospects more time in the majors as the season ends.
On September 1st, the MLB rosters getting 2 additional spot boosting the roster to 26 players allowing team that are out of the playoffs to give more players a shot at proving what they can do. Teams heading into the playoffs also benefit from having more players on their roster in case injuries take place.
On September 1st, the rosters will expand to 28 players (maximum 14 pitchers), so the Jays will be able to call upon two more players from their 40-man roster to the big league squad. With the roster full at all 40 spots, should the Jays wish to promote someone who is not on the list, they will need to designate someone to make space.- Shushkewich
Toronto has a few different options when it comes to bringing up prospects that could be beneficial for their future. The first is Luis De Los Santos who has been in the minors since 2015 and finally got his first call up a few weeks ago and proved that he can play.
Another solid option would be bringing up RHP Jake Bloss who has been dominating in the minors and could benefit from pitching a few innings in the majors.
Outfielder Alan Roden is another player who could benefit from a call up as his defensive game has been strong this season while also having a great 1.078 OPS in Triple-A this season.
