In the Blue Jays home opener, fans got to finally witness the latest phase of the Rogers Centre's ongoing $400 million renovations. While it may be great as a spectator, fans at home had a completely different reaction... and it's not positive.
Viewers tuning in to watch the televised broadcast of the home opener were surprised by the changes to the center-field view of the stadium's rebuilt backstop, which looks vastly different from its appearance last season. The new strange view made it hard to focus on the action as some fans said. It has a completely different vibe to the broadcast of last year, and they are calling for a change in camera angle. One fan said it looked like an SNL set, another said:
It could just be where MLB is headed, trying to add a modern, more technological look to the game, but as most fans see it, they want something more traditional, something that isn't so distracting.
