After the disappointing season by the Cardinals, it was announced earlier today that the The St. Louis Cardinals will be parting ways with free agent and All-Star first-baseman Paul Goldschmidt at the end of the season.

Per the Athletic, the team has elected not to re-up Goldschmidt after he had the worst offensive season of his career. At 37-year-old, he hit .245/.301/.412 (97 OPS+) with 22 home runs and 64 RBI's. He talked to reporter from the Athletic to discuss his season.
"This is probably the worst I've performed on the field in my career," Goldschmidt told The Athletic. "That was disappointing, a good bit of that burden was on me. If I could've played how I believe I'm capable of playing, we could've won more games and maybe this might have turned out differently."

It could be that the Cardinals are trying to get rid of his salary and or to make room for notable first-base free agents such as Pete Alonso and Christian Walker, but it is not highly likely that they will be going to route of singing a big name to replace him.
Goldschmidt had previously never finished with an OPS+ below 115 in any of his first 13 big-league seasons, no matter the amount of games he played in that year.

Do you think the Toronto Blue Jays should go after him in the offseason? Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been playing some 3rd base through out the season and could make sense for the team to go after a big name like him. Let us know below in the poll.
