Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Jose Berrios wrapped up his season two night ago on a terrible note in a 15-5 loss to the Miami Marlins.

Berrios started off the 2024 season with some of the best pitching of his career as fans were even putting him into the early Cy Young conversations as he racked up wins and strikeouts.
Unfortunately Berrios cooled off quite a bit in the middle of the season but was able to finish the season well despite the last game with a 1.51 ERA in his last 8 games prior to the 15-5 loss.
Friday's dreadful 15-5 loss to the Marlins at Rogers Centre was the rare outlier, an ugly outing that, in its own strange way, highlighted just how good Berros has been for the Blue Jays down the stretch. Berros entered Friday's start -- during which he permitted six runs with three walks in three innings -- having allowed just nine earned runs over his last eight starts (53 2/3 IP), good for a 1.51 ERA over that span, so the unexpected stumble on the way out the door isn't much to worry about. -Matheson

The Blue Jays pitcher is far from flashy but is a solid and consistent pitcher the team can always rely on as he finished the season with a 3.60 ERA in 192 innings pitched which is very similar to last year.
Manager John Schneider told reporters after the game that Berrios the Blue Jays have simply come to expect these solid numbers from Berrios as he always takes care of himself in the off-season and shows up ready to play every year.
«You know what not really? And I think that's a good thing,» Schneider explained. «We've just come to expect this from him. I always go back to the way he takes care of himself and how durable he is. There's not really anything [that stands out]. He's just right there in a really good, consistent way.»

Clearly Berrios is part of the Blue Jays future and while he will never be one of the best pitchers in the league, he is the type of player that every team needs.
