Former Toronto Blue Jays infielder Kevin Smith announced on social media yesterday afternoon that he has decided to retire at 28 years old.

Most baseball players dream is to go out on their own terms and have a fairy tale ending to their career but unfortunately that is not the case for the majority as they are forced to retire because they can no longer land a contract.

Former Blue Jays infielder Kevin Smith has announced that he is retiring

Smith most recently played for the New York Yankees even though he only played in two games for them last season spending most of the year in the minors and ended up being released at the end of the season.
Unfortunately Smith was unable to land a contract in free agency this off-season which resulted in him announcing on social media that he had decided to retire from professional baseball.
Smith went unsigned as a free agent and was still without a major league contract on Monday when he announced his retirement in a post on social media.- Hoornstra

Smith posted a big post on social media thanking for all those that helped him throughout his career and made his dream a reality.
"I've been so lucky to be surrounded by amazing people who believed in me, helped me, and pushed me to accomplish the things I've always dreamed of," Smith wrote on Twitter/X.

"My family has sacrificed so much to come along on this journey with me. I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without the constant support through all the good times and tough times that come with playing this game.

I can't wait to be home for dinners, bedtime, and to live in one place the entire year for the first time in over a decade." -Smith

Despite his career coming to an end, Smith ackowledged that he is quite excited for this new chapter of his life since he will be able to spend a lot more time with his family at home.
Smith did not spend much time in Toronto as he only played 18 games back in 2021 before being traded to the Oakland A's in exchange for Matt Chapman but the Blue Jays are the first team to give him a chance and draft him in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB draft.
