On the eve of Opening Day, Jim Bowden of The Athletic predicts that the New York Yankees will sign Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette to a five-year deal next offseason.
Bichette is currently working off his final year of his contract and is set to become a free agent after this season, and Bowden feels it will be a five-year $147 million contract as the Yankees are looking for more offensive help.
Bichette waiting for Blue Jays to make an offer
Bichette has not instilled a self deadline to when a potential deal may be signed by the Blue Jays as the infielder continues to wait for the team to make an offer.
"He [to me] was the most impressive guy in camp." John Schneider talks about where Bo Bichette is at ahead of the 2025 season
Bichette struggled in 2024 but is hoping to bounce back in a contract year. His poor 2024 campaign seems to be an outlier. Last season, he slashed .225/.277/.322. However, he had a .306 average in 2023. Aaliyan Mohammed
Despite his down year last year, Bichette has been one of the best players in baseball and has become a fan favorite within the Blue Jays fan base and has grown up with the team along with his friend Vladimir Guerrero junior who is also on the cusp of becoming a free agent at the end of the year.

Both players have stated repeatedly that they wish to remain with the Blue Jays for their entire career but for some reason they have not been able to put pen to paper to a new deal.
Bichette will receive many offers if a free agent
Much like his friend Guerrero junior, Bichette will receive many offers throughout the league as teams will be looking for offensive help and Bichette will become one of the best free agents available.
Some fans and pundits feel that a deal would be easier with pochette first as he would not command as a large salary especially with his year last year.
If his season and the Blue Jays begin with a hot start, the cost for Bichette will only rise and will force the Blue Jays to either pay more money for him or let him go to free agency.
The latter is not the option Blue Jays fans want to hear and many hope that the team and Bichette can come to an agreement within the year and settle this for the next several seasons.
The Blue Jays are set to open their new season on Thursday March 27th where they will take on the Baltimore Orioles at Rogers Centre where they will enjoy their home opener on opening day for the first time in three years.
First pitch will be at 3:07 PM eastern.
