MLB's all-time hit leader Pete Rose tragically dies at 83
In some very sad new to announce, MLB's all-time hit leader Pete Rose has suddenly passed away at 83-year-old.
Major League Baseball extends its deepest condolences to Pete Rose's family, his friends across the game, and the fans of his hometown of Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Montreal and beyond who admired his greatness, grit and determination on the field of play. May he rest in peace.
The announcement came from his long-time agent Ryan Fiterman, of Fiterman Sports, where he disclosed the tragic news to TMZ Sports. There have not been any details on the cause of his death, but it was reported that he was under the care of the doctor at the time and there is no suspicion of foul play. There will be more details once the medical examiner continues his evaluation.
The family is asking for privacy at this time.
Over his 24 MLB seasons, 19 of which were apart of the Cincinnati Reds organization, Pete Rose solidified himself in the record book as the leagues best hitter. The 17-time All-Star, 1973 NL MVP and 1963 Rookie of the Year collected 4256 career Hits, was a 3-time batting champion and won the ultimate prize of the World Series 3 times as well.
He has been a polarizing figure as she was banned from the league after he admitted to gambling on MLB games.
"I bet on baseball in 1987 and 1988," he told ABC News' Charles Gibson in an exclusive interview that aired Jan. 8, 2004, on "Primetime Thursday." "That was my mistake, not coming clean a lot earlier."
He maintained he never bet against his team, saying he "want[ed] to win every game."
"I think what happens is you're, at the time, you're betting football and then what's after football is basketball ... and obviously the next thing that follows is baseball," Rose said. "It's just a pattern that you got into."
Due to this fact, he has been left out of the baseball Hall-of-Fame which is viewed to many as the biggest travesty in baseball.
Everyone here at Blue Jays Insider would like to extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the Rose family during this difficult time.
