Vladimir Guerrero Jr was on a podcast yesterday and stated he gave the Toronto Blue Jays a firm deadline as to up until when he will be listening to offers before being done with a possible extension.
The Blue Jays made Guerrero a $340 million contract offer a few weeks about but it was rejected as Guerrero is looking for a lot more money from his next contract since he knows how much he can get on the open market next year.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr gives the Blue Jays firm deadline on up until when he willing be listening offers
Guerrero went on the Abriendo Sports podcast yesterday speaking on all things baseball including his contract negotiations in which he dropped a few massive details.
Must read on Blue Jays Insider
During the interview,
Guerrero stated that he is ready to go on an extension with the Blue Jays but that they have been nowhere near the amount he is looking for while adding that the Blue Jays have until the first full day of Spring Training to make an offer.
Vlad Guerrero Jr. says he's been discussing a possible extension w/ Blue Jays & is «ready to go» on a long-term deal for the right offer. Also: he says he doesn't plan to negotiate after 1st full day of spring training & Jays front office knows this
While these details have the fanbase quite stressed out, it seems like the front-office has been aware of this or quite some time but does not seem to worried about the deadline.
If Ross Atkins end up blowing this contract negotiation with
Guerrero and having him walk after the 2025 season, it will be hard for Rogers to keep the fan base around as they will likely not be able to put up with this anymore.
Blue Jays fans have stuck with their team through thick and thin over the years even throughout Atkins questionable moves but if he ends up losing Guerrero, this will be an unfixable mistake for the fans.
Hopefully Atkins realizes what is at stake here and makes the right move by signing
Guerrero to an extension before Spring Training.
