A former Montreal Expos icon reached out to Vladimir Guerrero Jr for advice just prior to signing his 14-year mega deal worth $500 million who happens to be his father Vladimir Guerrero Sr.

The former 16-year baseball star had spoken to his son about how to handle this new contract and how to get as much money as possible from the Jays according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

Guerrero Jr has full a full no movement clause in his new deal

«Trust god. My dad told me to trust god, and to get the last penny that I could from the organization.» Vladimir Guerrero Jr
This contract was the most expensive in Blue Jays history and one of the highest contracts in baseball history. Much was made about the potential deal that was talked about continuously for the past couple of weeks.
Many were skeptical after his self-imposed deadline was placed at the beginning of spring training after a deal couldn't be done.
The 25-year-old posted a .323/.396/.544 slash line last season with 30 home runs, 103 RBI and an OPS+ of 165. He accrued 5.4 fWAR, which was 14th in the league.

Some pundits felt Blue Jays an missed opportunity

Despite all Blue Jays management and the organization being pleased about landing Guerrero Jr to a new contract, some have felt the team missed an opportunity to sign him to a lower value contract dollar wise that would have made more financial sense.
It's safe to say the Blue Jays chose to wait and may have caused themselves more financial issues. The team is happy, Vladdy and his family are very happy and the fanbase seems quite happy.
Now it's their turn to get Bo Bichette locked into a new deal and put this small chapter of free agent talk to rest.
