Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins spoke to reporters and expressed his desire to lock up Blue Jays budding superstar Bo Bichette to a new contract after signing Vladimir Guerrero junior to a $500 million deal.

After weeks of speculation, Guerrero junior signed a new deal with the team that will see him earn a whopping $500 million / 14 years which includes a signing bonus of $325 million which will be paid over 15 installments.

Akins has hope Bichette will be signed soon

Akins had told the media recently that there is definite interest from the Blue Jays organization to retain Bichette to a long-term deal and see both Guerrero junior and Bichette play together for the Blue Jays for their entire career.
«The interest is definitely there,» said Atkins. «It's also our vision for [Guerrero and Bichette] to continue to play together. We will do everything in our power to see if we can line up.» - Ross Akins

Bichette himself also acknowledged just a few days ago that he would like to play for the Blue Jays with Vladdy and win a championship in Toronto.
Bichette, of course, is difficult to value at the moment. The 27-year-old is a two-time All-Star who's garnered down-ballot MVP votes in three seasons and looked like an organizational pillar alongside Guerrero for much of his early career. From the time of his 2019 debut as a 21-year-old through the conclusion of the 2023 season, Bichette posted a collective .299/.340/.487 batting line - 26% better than league-average by measure of wRC+. Interest in Bichette signing with Toronto seems one sided

Despite what Atkins has said to the media, it seems that Bichette is the only one interested now in signing with Toronto as he has not received a formal contract negotiation or offer from the team.
It's clear that Guerrero junior took priority but if the team values Bichette highly and he has a successful 2025 season where he currently has had 59 at bats, with no home runs eight RBI and batting average of .288 an OPS of .704.
The opinion is mixed whether he remains with the team or heads to free agency for now, the Blue Jays have Bichette in their lineup and hope to make a run to the postseason.
