Fans are wondering if the Toronto Blue Jays will be able to agree on a contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr before the start of Spring Training but it does not seem that way.
Looks like Vladimir Guerrero Jr might not be returning to the Blue Jays after all
Most believe that giving Guerrero the money he is asking for seems like a no brainer as he is by their best player and he will for sure land a $500 million deal from another team in free agency.
Despite that, it looks like the Blue Jays are not as certain about him being worth all this money as they have been informed on exactly how much he would sign for but has yet to make a bigger offer than $340 million.
The Toronto Blue Jays have tried to land a game-changing slugger twice in the past two winters. Unfortunately for the club, it wasn't able to sign Shohei Ohtani or Juan Soto. Now the Jays must decide whether it's worth committing to first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on a lucrative long-term deal. -Musico
According to reports, a deal will likely not get done before the start of Spring Training which means the Blue Jays will either end up trading him before the deadline in 2025 or they will keep him until the end of the 2025 season then test their luck with everyone else in free agency.
Guerrero has been very specific with Toronto regarding how much money he wants and a deadline to get a deal done. Things will only get more complicated if the two-time Silver Slugger winner begins 2025 without an extension. -Musico
This is a risky scenario since Guerrero will definitely attract some of the top teams in free agency such as the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.
If Guerrero ends up signing or being traded to the Yankees or Red Sox it will crush the Blue Jays fan base as they will now have to face their beloved former first baseman multiple times per year as they will play in the same division.
