Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins has made an interesting statement in a recent interview that he believes the team can solve many of their problems internally.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins believes the team's current players can solve their issues
In a recent interview, Atkins made a bold statement as he believes that the Blue Jays can solve many of their on going issues with the players they already have on the roster proving that they do not need that much external help.
Atkins added that the team should be able to get at least 10 more wins next season if they put their current players in positions to be successful.
"If you just looked at our projections and the performance of players and did the math on that, you could make the case that we have 10 wins within our roster right now to close (the gap) if we deploy them appropriately and put them in the best positions to be successful," Atkins said, as reported by Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. Atkins said that meant paying attention to "when they're playing and how they're playing and who they're playing against."
This means Atkins is admitting that last season the coaches and front office did a poor job of putting their players in the right positions to win yet the majority of their staff is still there apart from some small changes.
While adding 10 more wins does not even sound that good since the Blue Jays would have still missed the playoffs since it would have put them beneath the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals for the two Wild Cards spots.
Ten extra wins would've vaulted the Jays from last to third place in the AL East last season and put them two games behind the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers for the final wild-card berths. -Sawchik
While some of the Blue Jays current players such as Bo Bichette and George Springer could improve their game for the better of the team next season, if the Blue Jays truly plan on winning more in 2025, they will need to make changes regardless of what Atkins thinks.
