The Blue Jays need to bring in some serious hitters this off-season if they want to improve their offense in 2024 and while the free agent market is filled with talented hitters, the Blue Jays need to also keep an eye on possible trades.
MLB insider believes the Blue Jays could look into a trade with the White Sox for Luis Robert Jr.
Robert is coming off a down year as he only hit 14 homeruns and 35 RBIs in 100 games this season to go along with a .224 batting average but he was also on one of the worst teams in MLB history.
Mountz believes that the Blue Jays should look into trading for Robert since they could probably get him for a small return and he could end up having a huge upside if he gets back to the player he was in 2023 with 38 homeruns.
"At times, Robert has shown he can be an elite 5-tool player. He can steal bases at a high click, hammer home runs like a true slugger, hit for a high average, and is arguably the best defender in centerfield (won Gold Glove in 2020)," Mountz said.
If the Blue Jays acquire Robert and get him back on his game, he is still under contract for another two years and they could benefit from his offense if they are not able to land any superstar hitters in free agency.
"The 27-year-old Robert is under contract through 2027 with two club options after 2025. If he can stay healthy, he is a game-changer. If Ross Atkins is serious about building a contender, Robert needs to be on his radar. Because I believe Soto will not go to the Jays, I think Atkins will opt for the next best thing."
While fans are hoping for some bigger names to end up in Toronto this off-season, Robert could end up being a steal but there are risks involved since they would need him to do much better than last season.
