Toronto Blue Jays closing in on Minnesota Twins All Star as trade offer is announced
The Toronto Blue Jays have been searching for another bat since the offseason and according to baseball reporter Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report, the Blue Jays may consider a trade with the Minnesota Twins to acquire infielder Carlos Correa.
It appears that the three-time All-Star may need a change of scenery as his 2025 season has been dreadful.
Correa would help Blue Jays offensively
With Bo Bichette manning shortstop, the likely spot for Correa would be third base. He had signed a six-year deal worth $200 million with the twins back in 2023 where he earns a base salary of $36 million.
That would be a hefty price for the Blue Jays but could be an insurance policy for the team in case Bichette's contract cannot be renewed and he chooses to walk to free agency at the end of the year.
In 85 postseason games and 358 plate appearances, he has a .282/.352/.508 slash line with 18 home runs, 19 doubles and 63 RBI. Kenneth Teape
What issue the Blue Jays would need to consider is having him take a physical as the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets were highly interested in signing him but had physical concerns which side them away from a large deal.
Blue Jays has the resources to make a deal for Correa
After all the reports that were announced on players that simply did not choose the Blue Jays during the offseason and how much Rogers Communications was willing to shell out for some superstars, would certainly mean they would be able to afford his contract.
After a great start to the season, the Blue Jays have fallen back to earth some what and are currently holding a record of 12-11 after stumbling against the Seattle Mariners and losing their first game against the Houston Astros.
The Blue Jays are noticing several issues that are starting to crop into the lineup including the lack of offense from certain players and there middle inning bullpen.
The group of pitchers have been strained with some poor work from players and the ongoing issue with Max Scherzer's thumb and the recent regression of Easton Lucas who is now back in Buffalo.
The team is currently facing some adversity but do have bright spots including stellar starting pitching from the veteran rotation and some key offence from players like George Springer.
The Blue Jays will finish their series against the Astros and then take a trip to New York where they will face off against the New York Yankees.
