MLB reporter Hazel Mae gave an interesting injury update regarding relief pitcher Erik Swanson this morning as he is continuing his recovery process.
Swanson has been dealing with an injury since January which is why he arrived late to Spring Training and unfortunately before being able to really get going he started dealing with a forearm issue.
Blue Jays announce injury update regarding Erik Swanson
John Schneider recently stated that Swanson would begin pitching again Wednesday or Thursday and he he did but from the sound of things it does not look like Swanson will be ready for the start of the season.
Erik Swanson (forearm) update: John Schneider said Swanson is going to start throwing Wednesday or Thursday, and then have a «normal-ish, maybe a little bit of an accelerated ramp up, similar to what you do at the start of spring training.»
Hazel Mae reported this morning that Swanson pitched for the first time yesterday and that Schneider stated he felt good which was a step in the right direction but he is still not back in game shape.
Erik Swanson (forearm) threw for the first time Wednesday since he was shut down. «Felt good,» according to Schneider, «he was encouraged that he didn't need anything done, other than a shot.. so, so far so good.» #BlueJays
The surprising part in all of this is that the Blue Jays decided to send pitcher Dillon Tate down to Triple-A this morning when Swanson will likely not be ready for Opening Day.
